According to linguists, there is an important distinction between language acquisition and language learning. As
we may have noticed, children acquire their mother tongue through interaction with their parents and the
environment that surrounds them. Their need to communicate paves the way for language acquisition to take
place. As experts suggest, there is an innate capacity in every human being to acquire language. By the time a
child is five years old, s/he can express ideas clearly and almost perfectly from the point of view of language
and grammar. Although parents never sit with children to explain to them the workings of the language, their
utterances show a superb command of intricate rules. This suggests that it is through exposure to the language
and meaningful communication, with which any first language is acquired, without the need of systematic
studies of any kind.
When it comes to second language learning in children, you will notice that this happens almost identically to
their first language acquisition. Moreover, even teachers focus more on the communicative aspect of the
language rather than on just rules and patterns for the children to repeat and memorize. In order to acquire
language, the learner needs a source of natural communication. Hence, the process of teaching English as
second language and honing the communication skills of young learners is altogether a different process as
compared to the adult learners.
In this context, our HI-Tech World School has understood the need of children in acquiring ESL and polishing
interaction skills from the early stages of learning. HI-Tech has an active group comprising proficient
Montessori and Middle school Trainers to teach kids the basic of language acquisition in a playful and
interesting manner. To fulfill this objective, we have an active group to build natural learning and
communication module, named as LEXICON. Not only this, we also have a tie-up with British Council to be
upgraded with the new techniques of teaching English communication to the children from grade Nursery to Std
IV. Our team of teachers weekly/daily coaches them based on communicative lesson plans. The instructors
keep the written track of the students’ performance, progression and the problem areas too. Our school aims to
enhance the English communication skills of the children by providing them a natural language acquiring setup. The mentor team never pressurizes students to mug-up the grammatical structure. As the ESL module is
different when it comes to teaching kids, HI-Tech mentors do it in exciting ways so that students get interested
and motivated towards English speaking skills. For instance below are activity-based modules for young
learners:
Follow Instructions
Telling the students that they will be given a series of instructions and teacher wants them to follow as
fast as they can.
a. Put your finger on your nose.
b. Clap your hands.
c. Stand up.
d. Touch your shoulder.
e. Sit down.
f. Stamp your foot.
g. Cross your arms.
(While instructing these, mentors enact the commands.)
Listen and Draw
This learning activity teaches children to pay attention and boost active listening.
Participants are gathered together and given a piece of paper and a pencil to each player. Teachers tell them
that they will be given verbal instructions to draw an object, one-step at a time.
Sample Instructions:
a. Draw a square.
b. Draw a circle within the square, such that it fits exactly in the middle of the square
c. After finishing, hold the paper in hand and wave it.
Apart from such activities, creative worksheets are provided to the students for enriching their vocabulary and
better understanding of English language. These modules inculcate a natural appeal in children to interact in
English language. These sessions not only enable them to speak in English but also wipe out their hesitation of
stage performance and public speaking. Below are some samples of it:
In accordance with given ESL modules, our teachers focus on providing an innate surroundings to the kids to acquire
English language as easily as they adapt their own mother tongues. Teachers and Mentors facilitate students to ace all
four skills: speaking, writing, reading and listening. Our trainers do not prompt the translation method to learn English
but to make kids think in the targeted language itself. This process is very effective with children as they are like fresh
slate to be written on, to derive impeccable results.
Therefore, HI-Tech World School aims to prepare their children for future by appropriately carving their present. In this
journey, our team works on students ’overall development so that they grow into skilled and confident adults.
Moreover, they are geared-up to meet the challenges in their coming professional lives and come out with flying
colours
